Muar 2nd Bridge Link-Road

The Muar 2nd Bridge and the link-road is a stretch of expressway from Parit Bunga ending at Jalan Abdul Rahman, Muar. There are many junctions with traffic lights along the double-lane expressway. With this expressway, traffics going south from Melaka and Tangkak can by-pass Muar town, avoiding the traffic jam in the town centre. No toll is payable.

There is one unique feature of the expressway. Vehicles traveling above 110 km/h will fly off the ground due to the uneven road surface at some parts of the expressway, at those places where there are underground culverts. Vehicles with low ground clearence will suffer damage at the under carriage. Scratch marks on the road are visible at those places. So be careful when driving along the expressway. Go slow.

Many accidents have happened at the traffic light junctions. Don't take it for granted that green means green! Keep a proper lookout even it is green. Malfunction of traffic lights may cause serious consequences.

Muar Magistrate's Court

Muar Magistrate's Court is located in a rented bungalow house at Parit Peropuk, Jalan Temenggong Ahmad, 84000 Muar, Johor. Jalan Temenggong Ahmad is the road from the town leading to Parit Jawa and further south to Batu Pahat. The premises were built not as a court but had been renovated to house two (2) Magistrate's Courts and a Registry. The Muar High Court building at Jalan Petrie had no space for the Magistrate's Court. So the authority was forced to rent the bungalow house and use it as the Magistrate's Court, I believe, on temporary basis until a new court complex is built.

When will the new court complex be constructed? That is a question I use to ask. Whether it will be under the 9th Malaysian Plan or the next, no affirmative answer. Just hope that a new court complex will house all the courts, High Court, Sessions Court and Magistrate's Court all under one roof. That will definitely make lawyers' court attendances easier.

Muar Lions Autism Centre

The Lions Club members in Muar gathered in Sin Kee Ting Restaurant on 31-7-2007 and formed a Committee to plan and set up a centre to be named "Muar Lions Autism Centre" as a joint community service project of the 4 Lions Clubs in Muar, namely the Lions Club of Muar Host, Lions Club of Muar Tanjung Mas, Lions Club of Muar Mahaledang and Lions Club of Muar Putrie.

The Autism Centre will provide educational training to autistic children above the age of 12 conducted by trained teachers. It is reported that there is one autistic child in every 110 children. The lions in Muar have noticed the lack of educational centres in Muar which provide specialised training to autistic children and have agreed to undertake the project.

All still in planning stage. Hopefully after a couple of months, the Centre will be running. Meanwhile, parents with autistic child may register with the Committee to enrol their autistic child to receive educational training in the Centre once set up. Of course, a reasonable monthly charges will be imposed.

For registration, please contact Lion David Lock 012-252 8245 or personally go to Sin Kee Ting Restaurant and see Lion Goh Ah Nea, the Centre's Chairperson, for further details.

Lions Club of Muar Host

The Lions Club of Muar Host held its Installation of President and Board of Directors at Sin Kee Ting Restaurant on 29th July 2007, jointly with the Lions Club of Muar Tanjung Mas, Lions Club of Muar Mahaledang and Lions Club of Muar Putrie. The Joint Installation was conducted by the Lions District 308B1's Vice District Governor, Lion Dr JP Kamalanathan and witnessed by local lions, visiting lions, lionesses, leos and invited guests. Also present were lions from Taiwan who came all the way to Muar just to attend the annual installation ceremony.

The lions in Muar are the proud ones as they have set up a biggest renal centre known as Muar Lions Renal Centre providing haemodialysis treatments to end-stage kidney failure patients at affordable charges. There are 44 dialysis machines serving about 100 patients of all races.

Other than this project, the lions in Muar are planning to set up a Training Centre for Autistic Children. If this project goes on smoothly, it will benefit parents of autistic children in Muar who may then send their children to the centre for specialised training by qualified teachers. There are very few such places to train autistic children not only in Muar but in other part of the country as well. The lions in Muar must be commended for having undertaken this community service project but its success depends very much on support by the people of Muar both financially or otherwise.

Why I talk about Lions Club of Muar Host? Because I'm a member in the Club. I'm a lion. Roar! Roar! Roar!
